As promised, I'm sharing the other two cards that I made yesterday. The title of this post refers to how I feel about them. The first card was for the Featured Stamper challenge over at Splitcoast Stampers. We were CASEing cards from Linda's gallery (aka Holstein), and I chose THIS CARD to CASE. Here's my version:
Stamp: Inkadinkado Animal Hearts; Ink: Close to My Heart Clover Meadow; Paper: CTMH Clover Meadow, GP white; Accessories/tools: Nestabilities Labels One, D'vine Swirl embossing folder, unknown ribbon (Michael's, maybe?), tiny gems and bling brad, Bic and Prismacolor markers, Sakura stardust glitter pen
I stayed pretty true to Linda's card - including colors and layout. The only changes I made were that I eliminated the border punch, embossed the background instead of scoring, and used a different ribbon and image. I added some glitter pen to the crown and colored some clear tiny gems with a marker before adhering them. This is the "okay" card...
I also attempted a card for the Inspiration Challenge from Saturday. We had a great site to draw inspiration from - Polyvore. The would-be fashion designer in me (long-lost dream of my youth) was completely floored by all of the amazing eye candy there! I chose this "set" to draw inspiration from:
I loved the color palette and was especially attracted to the very cool dress on the girl in the background. It sort of looked like there was a sheer black overlay over the turquoise dress, so it occurred to me to try that. I didn't have anything sheer enough to pull it off, so I just ended up with a black panel matted with turquoise. I also wanted to attempt to duplicate the belt, so I pulled out a couple of ribbons and a ribbon slide and played around with them until I was as happy with it as I was gonna get. Here's my "meh" card:
Paper: Stampin'Up! Taken With Teal, More Mustard, black; Accessories/tools: Fiskars border punch, Stampin'Up! ribbon slide, unknown pearls and ribbon
It needs something else - a sentiment in the lower right corner or something - but I'm over it... It was a good reminder that the process is more important than the result, and I'm proud of myself for getting my ego out of the way enough to show you even the things that aren't so successful (and for trying something new, even if it didn't work so well).
Totally awesome side benefit: each element in the "set" is shown separately, with links to the source of each. That painting of that girl in the background (with the cool dress and cool belt) spooled me over to a great blog - Paper Fashion. Totally made me want to start painting again!
Well, that pretty much wraps it up for me for now! Off to do the dishes so I can get to bed at something like a normal hour. My throat feels scratchy/sore and my voice is leaving me, so I need to nip this in the bud - whatever it may be! Have a great night, and thanks for stopping by!
