A while back I sent a message to the lovely Steph (Smilyn Stef), who hosts the Inspiration Challenge on Splitcoast (and is also co-hostess of the Jingle Belles challenges), suggesting a site for a future challenge. Today is the day that Walltat is our source, and Steph asked me to make a sample card for the challenge. I drew my inspiration from this wall decal:
And here's my card:
Paper: Stampin'Up! Sending Love dsp, GP White; Accessories/tools: Computer (Times New Roman font), Bic and Pilot markers
All I did was print out the sentiment on white cardstock, leaving spaces for the "o"s. Then I drew in the balloons and colored them. The red dp layer was trimmed around the design to make a scallop-y border along the bottom - that's it!
As is typical after a death and funeral and all of that, there are many people to thank, so I needed to make some thank you cards. I wanted to keep the design simple and easily mailable, but still a bit on the elegant side, so this is what I came up with:
Stamp: Stampin'Up! Elegant Greetings; Ink: Versafine Onyx Black, Close to My Heart Breeze; Paper: SU! Naturals Ivory, K & Company Hannah dp; Accessories/tools: Nestabilities Labels Four
I cut strips of the dp and just stuck one end of each into the Nestabilities die to shape it, then inked the edges for a bit more definition. One stamp, no embellishments - good to go!
We as a family wanted to do something special for the incredible nursing staff at the VA Medical Center that took care of Pop, so Angela (Greg's daughter) and I took them mementos from the funeral, cupcakes, and this card:
Stamps: My Sentiments Exactly Retro Alphabet; Ink: Versafine Onyx Black; Paper: SU! Real Red, GP White; Accessories/tools: Sizzix Double Heart Embosslit
Super simple here: stamp two words and stick on a diecut/embossed heart with foam tape... They were thrilled and we were pleased to be able to express our appreciation. They were so good to Pop and so friendly with us. You could tell they really cared about him, too - several of them were pretty teary...
It was good to have a bit of "creative therapy" after the stress of the past week! I'm hoping to do a few Jingle Belles challenges this weekend, too. Or maybe just veg out...
Angela and I are happy that we did all of our chasing around yesterday, 'cuz we've got 40-50 mph gusts of wind, temperatures (before the wind chill factor) in the low 20's, and SNOW a-blowin'! Poor Greg is out plowing and shoveling (and freezing!), but we get to stay warm and snug inside...
Okay - off to see what the day brings! Thanks for stopping by, and have a great weekend!
